Despite difficulty and danger, many Jews made the pilgrimage back to EretzIsrael (The land of Israel), the birthplace of the Jewish people. This influx of Jewish Immigrants did not sit well with the local Arab population and tensions grew between the two sides, causing the United Kingdom to pull out of Palestine and place it under United Nations supervision, with the hopes that the UN could more effectively oversee the cooperation of Arabs and Jews. However, Arabs and Jews continued to disagree on how, or if, to divide Palestine and skirmishes continued to break out between the two sides.
